Tournament Rules
1. Legion Baseball Rules are applicable except as modified below.
2. Format: Modified Round Robin, winner being determined by Win/Loss Record.
3. Game Limit: Regulation games will be 7 innings (6½ if the home team is leading) subject to mercy
and weather rules - see below. In order to attempt to stay on schedule, only one extra inning will be
played if a game is tied at the end of 7 innings. If a game is still tied at the end of 8 innings, that game will
be recorded as a tie in the standings. Ties will count in the standings as ½ win and ½ loss. In the intrest
of time, games will be subject to a 2.5 hour time limit.
4. Mercy Rule: Games will be terminated: (a) after 5 innings (4½ if the home team is leading) if one team
is ahead by 8 or more runs, or (b) after 4 innings (3½ if the home team is leading) if one team is ahead by
12 or more runs.
5. Weather Delays (rain, lightning, wind, etc.): Games will be suspended until it is safe to continue and
the field is playable. However, if the delay lasts 30 minutes or more, and the game was a Regulation
Game prior to the delay, then the game shall be considered complete as of the time of the delay. The game
shall be considered as a "Regulation Game" after 5 innings (4½ innings if the home team is leading). In
case of rain or other events beyond our control, games are subject to cancellation or time or inning limits
in order to get as many games as possible.
6. Tie Breaker: In the event of a tie in the standings, the tie breaker to determine final standings:
a. Head to Head.
b. Run differential with a maximum of 8 runs per game.
c. Least amount of runs allowed.
d. Coin Flip.
7. Designated Hitter: will be in effect for the Pitcher.
8. Courtesy Runner will be allowed for the Catcher & Pitcher (if batting). If not all of a team's players
are in the batting lineup, then the courtesy runner must be one of the players not in the lineup at the time
of the substitution, and must be declared before the first pitch to the next batter. If all available players are
in the lineup, then the courtesy runner shall be the last player to be put out.
9. Infield: Each team will be allowed 10 minutes of infield before their first game of the day only. Where
two teams need to take infield, the home team will take infield first. Be ready to go 30 minutes before
game time as games may start early if the preceding game ends early. There is plenty of space in the park
east of the diamond for warmup. Batting cage is located on the first base side.
10. Home Team: Is the first team listed on the schedule - Gering will always be the home team in its
games. Gering will occupy the third base dugout. Otherwise, a team playing back-to-back games will
continue in the dugout occupied for the previous game
11. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated by players, coaches, or spectators. Penalty--offender
will be ejected from the premises. A coach is also subject to removal for failure to control his team.
12. Trash: Please clean up your area and pick up the trash in your dugout before leaving the field.
13. Bats: Due to rule changes in Nebraska, we will only be using bats that are acceptable under Nebraska
Legion Rules. Please check their website (http://www.nelegionbaseball.net) and refer to “Playing
Regulations Rule 1, Section A - Bats” for clarification.
